SEB Group Managing Director Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain launched the Sarawak Energy brand and product, the energy saving bulb, at a leading hotel in Miri on 26 September 2008.
Speaking to about 150 staff and guests including heads of government departments and local business associates, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz disclosed, ¡°The demand for power has increased by 7% in the past two years as compared to about 2% previously. In view of the tight generating capacity, one of the ways for the company to generate revenue and mitigate the shortfall in energy availability is by going into retail business to promote the use and sale of energy-efficient merchandise like the energy saving bulbs.
¡°The potential reduction in electricity consumption through the use of the energy saving bulbs would be between 2 - 2.4 MW for Miri and up to 16.8 MW state-wide. This would have a significant impact on our power generating capacity and can help reduce our dependency on diesel.¡±
Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz congratulated the Miri Regional Office staff for pioneering the retail outlet project in view of the fast growing number of customers in the region. Among the objectives of the retail outlet are to educate the public on how to use energy wisely and to promote the use of energy-efficient household appliances and office equipment which will help reduce customers¡¯ electricity costs in the long term.
During his speech earlier on, SEB Chief Operating Officer Mr. Danice Endawie Ita said that the brand and product were the group managing director¡¯s brainchild and he was thrilled that the idea had developed and became a reality within a short period of time. The energy saving bulbs will be on sale at Miri retail outlet very soon.
