SEB sprang into action immediately upon hearing the plight of the Penans living in the interior of the Belaga District in Kapit Division. The community was facing acute food shortage due to the prolonged drought in the area.
From 25th through 27th August 2009, the Land & Wayleave Division dispatched seven tonnes of rice, 1,630 kg of cooking oil and 1,630 kg salt to these folk residing at the longhouses within the perimeter of Murum Hydro Electric Dam Project, namely Long Peran, Long Jaik, Long Wat, Long Menapa, Long Singu, Long Luar , Long Tangau and Long Malim.
